using the idea of impulse, explain why an egg will break when thrown into a bucket, but remains unbroken when thrown into a sagging sheet, if both throws have the same velocity.

OpenStudy (hunus):

\[I=F \Delta t = m \Delta v\] Because both the mass and the velocity are constant, the impulse must be constant. With a constant impulse and the knowledge that with constant impulse force and time are inversely proportional to one another, The sheet allows the force applied on the egg to be small and the time the force is applied to be great where as in the case of the bucket, the force is applied all at once on the egg in a very small time.
