Who said it has caused it??? Text messaging has not caused the deterioration of proper English. If you are writing a research paper on this item, good luck because text messaging has not been around long enough to gain proper data to prove it has caused the deterioration of proper English. The deterioration is coming from the lack of education and funds for education among other things. imo

Generally we text , we tend to shorten the words  to type quickly. Today most of us text, and have the habit of using these short words or abbreviations. We tend to use this same shorthand language everwhere, eventually deteriorating proper english usage in writing and speech.
