Mike and Bill play a game whereby MIke pays bill $1 for the privilege to throw a die on a table and if the side facing up is a 6 then Bill pays mike $A, or otherwise pays Mike nothing. Determine the value of A if the game is to be fair(in the very long run, after many throws of die, neither Mike nor bill hass won or loss a net amount).

OpenStudy (lilg132):

im guessing by die you mean dice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probably "die" as in one of them

OpenStudy (lilg132):

hmm not sure about this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

say mike plays 6 times. he will have paid $6 to play those 6 games. we "expect" that he will get one 6 out of the six tries. if the game is to be fair, bill should pay mike $6 for the 6. that way they are even

OpenStudy (zarkon):

by "otherwise pays Mike nothing" do you mean mike pays nothing else (just the original $1?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i read it as Bill pays mike $A, or otherwise [BILL] pays Mike nothing.
