If you have no background in programming or in CS, I think this is a fine course to start. Check "Learn Python the Hard Way", by Zed Shaw (there is an online free edition); for Python introduction, and some nice exercises; also, check the "Readings" tab in MIT OCW 600's web page. There are some good resources there :-)
