The red colour of the leaves is actually a pigment(it gives the red colour). There is actually chlorophyll under the red layer, by which photosynthesis occurs.

Carotenoids make a red color in plants.

Red color of plant doesnt mean that it do not have chlorophyll. the ratio of chlorophyll to carotenoids (Green to Red) is low giving red color
