After the first World War, the so-called allies, US, Britain, and France signed the treaty of Versailles, in which Germany promised to pay a huge amount of money to the allies,called reparations, in punishment for the war. Also there were restrictions placed upon how large the German army could be, as well as limits on weapons and Germany lost some of its territory.
