to compare fractions, you need to first make them share a common denominator or convert them into decimals. this classmate forgot to do this crucial step. 3/5 becomes 21/35, and 4/7 becomes 20/35. When you compare 21/35 and 20/35, you see that 21/35 - or 3/5 - is bigger. therefore, 3/5>4/7
