(a)x = -5 1/2
(b)x= -5 1/2 or 4 1/2
(c)x= -5 1/2 or 5 1/2
(d) no solution.

it is not possible for the absolute value of something to be negative, so in paricular there is no solution to
\[| \text{whatever}|=-5\]

i would go for the last option since modulus of anything should be a positive value...it simply cant be negative..
