okay, with this problem you are going to first distribute . That leaves you with |4x - 12| <8 . To get rid of the absolute value symbols, just make everything in there positive. Therefore it will now be : 4x + 12 < 8 . You subtract 12 from each side which gives you 4x < -4 . Then you divide by 4 which gives you x < -1 .
