How are the principles of heredity related to chance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Offspring inherits 1 chromosome from each parent for each of its chromosome pairs. The chromosome pairs contain the genetic code that will make up the organism. This is heredity. Which chromosome that is contributed from each parent's chromosome pair, however, is chance. Each parent contributes 50% of the code and the child inherits this information, but which 50% is up to chance.

Suppose parent have 2 pairs of chromosomes. Lets say A a B b, when they form gametes they split and form haploid gamete may be sperm or egg cell. now how will they split AB Ab aB ab so there are four ways to split. in our body we have 23 pairs making it process more complicate And chromosome splitting to for haploid gamete is random so chance comes in play
