You are looking into a deep well. It is dark, and you cannot see the bottom. You want to find out how deep it is, so you drop a rock in, and you hear a splash 3.0 seconds later. How deep is the well?

I don't know how everything works togethor but my guess is 3x speed of gravity, however my understanding is that gravity is an acceleration.. so its \[3\times9.8m/s ^{2}\] which doesnt really mean much to me.. This is if 9.8m/s^2 is even the correct approximation for speed of gravity :(

Use the formula d=.5a(t^2), where a the acceleration of gravity: 9.8

it will be \[(1/2)g t^2 = (1/2)*9.8*3.0^2\] which equates to 44.1 meters.
