the population od a small Polynesian island can be modeled by the equation f(x)=8e^8x. How many people, to the nearest integer, will be living on this island 10 years later due to general population growth with no new immigration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

evaluate the function for the population of the island at x = 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, 8 people to a number of people larger than the lifetime of the universe in years.

OpenStudy (agreene):

\[f(10)=8e^{8\times10}\] \[=8e^{80}\] assuming x is time, in years.

I think there is more to this question. if that original function was the RATE of population growth, then the answer might make more sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, still doesn't make sense :(

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take it further and solve with a calculator... if I do that, I get 4.432497908x10^35
