-3=1/2x+1/2x+x.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I assume you need to solve the equation: -3=1/2x+1/2x+x. Assume x not equal to zero, then multiply throughout by x: -3x=(1/2)+1/2+x^2 (assuming 1/2x means 1/(2x)) x^2+3x+1=0 use the quadratic formula or completing squares to get: x=(-3 +/- sqrt(3^2-4))/2 =(-3 +/- sqrt(5))/2

confusing but thanks

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Please do check 1/2x really means 1/(2x) or (1/2)x, they give completely different answers.

Also the first two terms on the RHS are repeated, they look fishy to me.
