In the figure below, ratio of AB to DE or the ratio of AC to DF is proportional to the ratio of 5 to 2. Which x + y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

myininaya (myininaya):

\[\frac{x-12}{16}=\frac{5}{2} ;\frac{y+7}{20}=\frac{5}{2}\]

myininaya (myininaya):

solve for x and for y then add them together to find x+y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I honestly have no idea how to do that, though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that the answer is either 97 95 87 or 75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.... :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'M SO CONFUSED.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first solve first equation for x x - 12 5 ----- = - 16 2 to eliminate the fraction multiply thru by 16 x - 12 = 40 x = 52 do a similar thing in y equation to find y then add this value to 52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y+7=50 which means that y=43? and 43+52=95 and I have my answer. Thanks!
