Actually the brain does get blood without blood then the oxygen wouldnt get to your brain and you would die vertebral arteries pass through foramen magnum and reach the inferior of the brain & unite to from the basilar artery. The vertebral artery supplies the posterior of the brain. Basilar atery branches into posterior cerebral artery & cerebellar arteries that supply the cerebellum & pons. Common carotid arteries divide & the internal carotid supplies structures internal to the skull Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_does_blood_flow_through_the_brain#ixzz1g0CpV9GR

because of the blood-brain barrier More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood-brain_barrier

The brain does not actually make contact with blood. When this happens, bad things happen including swelling of the brain. The blood-brain barrier is made up of specialized cells that take oxygen, nutrients, and hormones from the blood and deliver them to the brain. This barrier also takes carbon-dioxide from the brain and gives it to the blood. The specialized cells of the blood-brain barrier are very selective in what they allow to pass. This protects of the brain from pathogens and other harmful chemicals.

Blood brain barrier Brain is most important organ. So it should be protected by all possible way. During infection your blood will carry pathogens . Body want to keep them away from most important organ. That is why brain is isolated from blood with help of blood brain barrier. Nutrient can pass through it but cell cant. It is same case with testis, they are also protected from blood. If in any case this barrier is damaged and brain cell come in contact with blood. then immune system recognize it as non-self and shows immunological response against brain cell. Its fatal condition.
