You saw a shirt for $97. You didn’t have the cash so you borrowed $50 from your mom and $50 from your dad. $50+$50=$100. You bought the shirt, and had $3 change. You gave your dad $1 and your mom $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself. Now you owe your mom $49 and your dad $49. $49+$49=$98 + Your $1=$99. Where is the missing $1?

lol someone ask me this and it is so confusing.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

There is no missing dollar. Once you have that $3 in change, and you owe your mom and dad $100 totally ($50 each). The fault lies in thinking you can keep the $1 which is not yours. (cuz you started with zero dollars.) Give mom $3, dad $0. You owe Mom $47, dad $50. Give mom $2, dad $1. You owe Mom $48, dad $49 Give mom $1, dad $2. You owe Mom $49, dad $48. Give mom $0, dad $3. You owe Mom $50, dad $47.
