What is diagonal of mxn matrix?

I don't think so. m has to be equal to n.

Maybe it's a question about determining whether or not a (m x n) matrix is in row-reduced form? In which case my answer isn't always true, because you could have a pivot in row 1 col 1 , and another in row 2 ... col 3 or something.

Truthfully I read it as 'n x n'. ;-p

MATLAB did it like u. I was confused about how non-square matrix has diagonal, which diagonal, why that one,... so, anybody found answer?
