Write the quadratic equation whose roots are -3 and -4, and whose leading coefficient is 1. (Use the letter x to represent the variable.)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

If the roots are say, 1 and -5, we would have to FOIL (x-1) (x+5) Notice how it's x MINUS 1 ... and x PLUS 5... cuz if we let x = 1, then (1-1)=0. Now foil out the expression and that's it. :)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Leading coefficient = "the coefficient of the x^2 term".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 + 7x + 12

OpenStudy (lilg132):

x^2 - 7x + 12
