Given a point in the coordinate plane, the rule (x, y)\[\rightarrow \] (x + 2, y - 3) translates the point in which direction? A) 2 units to the left and 3 units up B) 3 units to the left and 2 units down C)3 units right and 2 units up D)2 units to the right and 3 units down

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

So, x is left/right and y is up/down. Therefore... 2 units to the right, and 3 units down.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

It's also worth noting here that changing the sign associated with the x or y will change the left/right or up/down directions. (So x followed by a positive number is to the right, x followed by a negative number is to the left, y followed by a positive number is up, y followed by a negative number is down.)
