Well, those are equations of two lines. Either the lines are parallel, in which case there are no solutions, or the lines intersect, which means there is one solution, or the lines are identical, which gives infinitely many solutions. if you rewrite the equations in the form y=mx+b, you can see that the slopes (m) are not the same, so the lines must intersect somewhere.
