I am not aware of social sites allowing "delete" account.

First reason is the marketing benefit. They can claim zillion users even though only a handful actually are active.

Second reason is the prior record. They would rather keep the account around with all prior activity so whoever references has context.

Third reason is that it is not a feature worth prioritizing over many of the other positive features that can help grow the site.

GT, you're incorrect on that point. Every major site allows for account deletion. In our case, we require that we do it manually in the database. Partially because, you're right - it's not a high priority to have that as a button. But also because it gives us an opportunity to have a conversation with the user before deletion so that we can improve our product.

Yes, please contact us and we'll delete all your information. The username itself is maintained because it's cross-referenced in a variety of places, and the content you created is maintained because it's useful to other people (there is no private content on OpenStudy at the moment, so all content is potentially useful to others).
