(x+1)(x+1)=25 x^2+x+x+1=25 x^2+2x+1=25 x^2+2x=24 ? OR x(x+2)=24 ? x=0 or x=-2 . Are you trying to find the roots?

Easier might be to just take the square root of both sides; followed by subtracting 1.
