Generally, liberals believe that people are poor because of circumstances beyond their control (economics, health, society, family background), while conservatives believe people are poor because of their own individual failures (laziness, lack of character). What do you believe? What steps would you propose to reduce poverty on the basis of what you think causes it?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

The two questions here are about your views: 1) What do YOU believe? 2) What steps would YOU propose to reduce poverty on the basis of what you think causes it? So I guess... start with just talking about which viewpoint (if either, or maybe a little bit of both) you believe in?

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

In several countries, many people are poor because of circumstances that go beyond their control. Due to lack of jobs or a very low pay, increase of basic products prices, or lack of high education. It also has to do with a historical background.

thc mathteacher and I like that lilia how do i form that as athesis in my intro

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx*

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

You may wanna do some research about poverty and economy before writing your essay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what do i do after i do my research

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

Well, you can start writing your essay.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

I am assuming... since the question asks what do you "Believe" -- you are allowed to insert your own opinions on the matter, and then back the up with whatever evidence your research turns up. My opinions on the matter were formed as a child growing up and then going on to college and grad school and seeing how other people viewed the world. I'm guessing you've not had the college + beyond experience, but I'm sure you probably have some sort of experience and thinking about this stuff even now. :)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

But does your teacher expect you to do extensive research? Like, do you have to "include 10 references or sources", etc? Or is it just "write 2 pages on your thoughts about poverty and its causes?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

. Excellent essays (i.e. "A" work) is well-written, presented in an organized fashion (use of subtitles, etc. are up to the individual student), and show the use of a variety of class sources which are properly cited. You should strive, to the extent you are able, to integrate the textbook readings (from both We the People and A Guide to the US Constitution), as well as any current affairs articles, into your answers. ***FOCUS ON THE CHAPTERS YOU HAVE READ FOR THE FINAL EXAM –ie. Chapters 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. 3. Most important: Do the best you can. Remember that while there are no "right" or "wrong" answers on this assignment (as with the Discussion Board), there are excellent, good, average, and below-average answers. If I believe you have written an exemplary Essay Assignmment 1 answer, I will email you a request to publish your work to our class. Good luck! I don't know -- you have to decide what you think about the matter. What are your thoughts regarding why people are poor or are not poor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well some people are educated and gone through school and some people cant even afford to go to school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Ok, so that is a good start. :) From the question: >Generally, liberals believe that people are poor because of circumstances BEYOND THEIR CONTROL (economics, health, society, family background), while conservatives believe people are poor because of their own individual failures (laziness, lack of character). So would you say that people are poor because of reasons beyond their control? If you're poor and born into a poor family, how can you afford to go to an expensive school and get educated?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find a job before going to school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Well, it's a bit complex, since college prices tend to go up each year, but not at the same rate as minimum wage... so it could take anywhere from about 50 to 100 years up to ... never.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe attend a community college?
