The chat feature in the group is being used for flirting, sleaze talk and all sorts of junk. Is that the intended purpose? Or, something else?

the chat box is for people to be more human than just be nerds solving math and history and physics and computer science and continue the list. if you want humans in here, make this place human, and that's just what the os team have done :)

I will be very honest with you. The chat feature should be available only for people at a certain level or above. Such open ended chat feature for "everyone" is inviting trouble at worst and annoyance at best.

Well, I like to think that when people start crossing the boundary, someone reports them. Does it work as it should all the time, probably not. However, should it work? Yes. We have thousands of people, young, from different countries and cultures that gather on the system. What I marvel about is that something explosive does not happen more often. Its because people coming here are basically good. And when ever a creepy person gets into the chat, there are enough to report him or her. Should we restrict access to chat? Well, there is so much good stuff going on, learning and social stuff, mentoring, de-stressing, helping, building world peace (really), that it would be a real shame to somehow restrict it. I prefer to find a solution where like in a community pool, we all share the responsibility of keeping it clean. I feel like this can work, if we all work together. So Tomas, KarateChopper, mathteacher are all folks that help keep the community clean. And we slowly remove, suspend, report others, maybe educate a few and eliminate the rest! Happy Holidays!
