A cyclist travelled 3/4 of his journey at an average speed of 12 km/h. He then decreased his speed by 3 km/h to complete the remaining 18 km. How long did he take to complete the whole journey?

So we need to find the time for the two segments. For the first three quarters, we know that the distance is 3 x 18 km = 54 km and his speed was 12 km/hr. So that segment took 54/12 hours = 4.5 hours Now you figure out the time for the other segment and add it to 4.5 hours.
