Which of the languages are no longer benificial to learn 1)Ruby 2)perl 3) python 4) c# 5) jQery 6) .Net 7) PHP 8) CSS 9) javascript 10) AJAX
2, maybe. They're all beneficial though.
I use them all to some extent if my client likes opensource PHP....CSS is almost a must any more.......if client uses alot of microsoft stuff then .NET.......javascript is good for HTML5 or should I say HTML ..........AJAX is great but must be used carefully if you change the main content of a web page dynamically and some body is reading it you might confuse them enough to make them leave your page or u will anger them because they were reading information that is important to them :) A nice balance of technologies is benificial CORE programming concepts are the most important to master because if you know CORE you can use most API that intrest you after creating half a dozen stubs/code snippets.
If any of those, I agree with 2. .NET would contain C#, .NET is very used everywhere I've worked including IBM. After learning any language OOP, learning others becomes very easy. Honestly I'd start with .NET / C# because of the slick IDE: Visual Studio and ease of use to learn. I started with Python myself but do most of my projects in a .NET language or managed C++. Of course, some places you might work might use some off the wall crazy old stuff that shouldn't exist anymore, but everything is programmed in it and it would be too expensive to port over,etc.etc. Getting your feet wet with any language is the most important. It doesn't matter what you start with, as long as you start learning. If you want to work with something easy that shows you a bit of life out of what you're doing, check out Python 2.7x, the interactive console with Python is a good way to figure out how functions/modules that are new to you work, as well as the best damn calculator I've ever used. -ramble ramble-
