My daughter needs someones help explaining comparing fractions. Which is bigger 2/3 or 2/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/3s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain to her why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Without using pie/cake analogies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any way that will help her make sense of them. I'm getting confused trying to explain it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it the amount left over that makes it bigger, or the amount taken out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the amount taken out of the original, actually.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the more you take out of the original amount, the larger it's value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 3/5 is bigger than 1/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right.

Thank you very much!
