What are some key things about the dred scott case?

The dred Scott case was one of the most famous cases because he was a black slave and he sued for his freedom and at first it was a minor issue considering he was african america, then it was twisted and became a legal case and a big political issue and in the end it was taken all the way to surpreme court on March 6, 1857 and they ruled that scott was a slave NOT a citizen therefore he could not sue in federal courts, but im not sure what the overall ruling of the surpreme court
