in regards to peace making and war, are we still doing the same things over and over again?

You can make arguments in either direction. We've stepped back from the early 20th-century approach of global wars, but arguably the local wars we're fighting now are similar to some of the ones that were fought pre-20th-Century. On the other hand, we're balancing a lot more diplomatic ties in real time (rather than with shipping delays and such).
