I forgot how to do equivalent fractions? any help?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

well you can multiply the top and bottom (numerator and denominator) of the fraction by any constant eg 1/2=2/4=3/6= 100/200 = 400/800 =...

OpenStudy (pokemon23):

well explain :)

OpenStudy (pokemon23):

The top and bottom of the fraction must always be a whole number. So, what you divide by must divide evenly (ie no remainders) for both the top and bottom numbers. You only multiply or divide, never add or subtract, to get an equivalent fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so what if there is no Divisible for that number?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the fraction 3/5 for example is in its simplest fraction form,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so 12/15 would be 1/5 or no?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

no

OpenStudy (pokemon23):

4/5

OpenStudy (pokemon23):

dicided by 3 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHHHHHHH I GET IT :'D

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

so 12 = 3x4 and 15 is 3x5 so 12/15 =3x4/3x5 we can cancel like terms from the numerator and denominator cancel the 3 12/15= 4/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o: i see, because there has to be a number for bottom and top to make the same ones

OpenStudy (pokemon23):

medal?

OpenStudy (pokemon23):

gracias :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :D
