If line p bisects line AD at point O, and if AO = z+4 and AD = 32-11, then find OD.

3z-11 *

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OD will be (2z - 14) as 2z - 14 + z + 4 = 3z -11

Could you write the whole process?

ok... |dw:1324050284650:dw| so youre trying to solve for the question mark basically... its like saying that you have a plank of wood and cut it into 2 pieces...if you know the length of one of the pieces, and you know the original lenght of the whole plank, then you can subtract the lenght of one piece from the plank to get the size of the other right? same principle here... you know that the lenght of OA is (z + 4) and the full lenght is (3z - 11) so if you subtract (z + 4) from (3z -11) you get OD... so: (3z -11) - (z + 4)---> 3z -11 -z -4 = 2z - 14
