need to know if my answers is right on a summation problem...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sum_{k=5}^{9}(3k-2)\] my answer is 117

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 95...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get 95?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

starting at k = 5, sub it into the equation 3k-2 so for k = 5, it equals 3(5)-2 = 13 continue on until you get to k = 9... then add up all the answers... k = 5, you get 13 k = 6, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for k = 6 you have 3(6)-2 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get 16... and thanks i must have done something wrong because when i do what you did i got 95....

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Kudos to you for asking if you had the right answer, vs. asking for the answer outright.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
