The perimeter of the regular hexagon with its center at H is 48 and its apothem is 6* sq rt of 3. Which is the area of the shaded region?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

5*(8*6sqrt3/2)=5*24sqrt3 =120sqrt3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A regular hexagon is made up of 6 equilaterial triangles. Each triangle has lengths of 48/6, or 8. The area of each triangle are A=(4)*(4sqrt(3)) So the area of the shaded region is five of these, or 80sqrt3

Thanks

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

Brett this is sure right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh i meant to give a medal to jhonyy9 not brett. 80sqrt3 isn't even a choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

120sqrt3 is right.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

but i hope that you understand it sure why is 120sqrt3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do understand, I saw what you wrote in your answer (the steps you wrote) and I understand a little bit better now.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ok good luck bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, i thought that the traingles were length 8 on each side, so each would be A=8/2*4sqrt3 whichis is 16sqrt3 times 5 which is 80. what is wrong here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know enough to tell you what EXACTLY is incorrect, but I do know that it is wrong because it was not one of the given possible answers. It's alright though. :]

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so the area of one triangle will be 8*6sqrt3/2 and after you need multiply this by 5

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

Brett ok ?
