How do you know that is what you are suppose to do? Like I mean where did the .6 come from and the 4 come from?

every day 40% (0.4) is eliminated which means .6 (60%) remain. So at the end of the first day, 2000 * 0.6 remain. At the end of the second day, 2000*0.6*0.6 remain. Third day, 2000*0.6*0.6*0.6 remain. In general, at the end of the nth day, 2000 * (0.6)^n remain.
