At the end of Lecture 14, Prof. Lewin has two bouncy balls that light up when bounced on the floor. How do they work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the balls had a mass inside attached to a few springs, the mass would oscillate after the balls had been bounced. The energy of oscillation could be converted ===> electrical energy===>light. Not sure of the details in the conversion though but it's a physics course, not an engineering one.
