What is the perimeter of the triangle below? Round to the nearest hundredth
her is the picture im way confused
Well, let's get the points!
A:(-8,-4) B:(-7,-8) C:(-6,-2)
Do you know the distance formula?
yea its d= the square root of (x2-x1)2+(y2-y1)2
That's correct!
Let's apply it to get line \(|AB|\):\[|AB|=\sqrt{(-8-(-7))^2+(-4+(-8))^2}\approx4.123.\]Can you do that for the other two lines?
so solve for line BC?
Yes! Also for line AC. :3
Then you add all three values, round the sum and obtain the perimeter of the triangle.
ohh i get it ..thank you
across can i just say how refreshing it is to find someone here who wants to explain interactively, rather than just type an answer out?
aww :3 i guess i have a teacher's heart <3
I try to explain (like you did), and push people here to doing the same, but most just want to spit an answer out and get a medal and move on.
so i got AB:4 AC:2 BC:6 now i just added them? and what do you mean by roud the sum?
*round
davian, that's spot-on! But you rounded the individual line lengths. Teachers often want us to round the final answer, so we perform our operations normally right before that point.
well, that's awesome. consider me part of your group :-)
oh so i would leave AB as 4.123 add them all up and my answer would be 12.12 because it says round to the nearest hundredth right?
That's right! For example, you already calculated\[|AB|\approx4.123,\]\[|AC|\approx2.828,\]\[|BC|\approx6.082.\]So, if you add them up, you get something like \(13.033\) which rounded to the nearest hundredth yields \(13.03\). Decimals are very picky, make sure you copy down at least one more than what you need! ^^
ohh ok thank you very much for your help i really struggle with Geometry its confusing to me ..so thank you
No, you're welcome. If you ever have any questions, feel free to message me anytime (somehow). :)
thank you (:
could you help me with my next question?
Sure thing!
thanks
