Easiest way to think of it is as an explanation - an expository essay's main purpose is to introduce and explain something.

Expository essay has a thesis (usually in the end of the intro), you  would also need sth to attract the reader (infomation, sth big) to put in the first sentence of an expository essay. In 3 body paragraphs, each must has T.E.A ( T = Topic sentence, E = explanation and proves, A = is for analysis). For a remain paragraph, which is conclusion, you must restate your thesis (say your thesis in different way). For the last sentence you would like to leave reader a question or sth to leave in their head.
