What scale are earthquakes measured on? Using this scale, if two earthquakes measure 2 and 3, what is the difference in magnitude?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are measured on a logarithmic scale

OpenStudy (anonymous):

richer scale

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if I recall correctly :-P I could be mistaken, but I'm sure the popular earthquake scales like Mercer and Richter (I don't think I named them correctly) do measure them correctly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that means that the earthquake measured 3 is 10 times as powerful as the earthquake measured 2

ok thank you
