ok

One side of a square is 5n inches long. Another side is n + 16 inches long. Write an equation by setting these equal and solving for n. How long is a side of the square? One point for finding n and one point for finding the length of the side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5n=n+16 , since the sides of a square mare equal 4n=16 n=4 hence, the side of the square is 20 inches

another problem i had was.: In the class elections, Connie received 53 more votes than Carl. In all, 221 votes were cast for the two candidates. How many votes did each receive. One point for the equation, one point for the solution

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

Let, votes Carl received = n

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

votes Connie received = n + 53

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

EQUATION: Total votes received = n + (n+ 53) = 221\[\rightarrow2n+53=221\]
