what is this "complete sentence" motif? i have now seen this ridiculous verbiage in at least 30 of these question.  is this some sort of math teacher- ese? 
multiply the first equation by 2, the second one by 3
get 
$$10x-18y=-32$$
$$6x+18y=-48$$add them together, the y's drop out and solve for x
