What is the quotient: (3x2 + 4x – 15) ÷ (x + 3) ? is it 3x – 1, r = 1? i would just like for someone to confirm if it is or isnt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (turingtest):

do you know how to divide synthetically? that is the easiest way to divide a polynomial by something of the form (x-a)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or you can substitute x =-3 in the equation

OpenStudy (turingtest):

but that won't tell you the quotient, just whether it is a root or not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah sorry. synthetic division is the easiest way though.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I say you should learn synthetic division either way, the last three problems you posted could be solved that way. http://www.purplemath.com/modules/synthdiv.htm www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZoMz1Cy1T4
