Show all work. A gardener wants to create a triangular garden in the shape of a right triangle with shortest side length x – 8y ft. and the middle length side x + 6y ft. What is an algebraic expression for the area of the garden? Be sure to multiply this out and express in simplest correct mathematical form, including units.

Middle Length side in sense?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pardon?????? I asked what it means

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probably the hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If middle side means the side of the other side other than hypotenuse then the area is equal to 1/2(base*height). Here because it is a right angled triangle base is one of the side and the second side is the height.. \[ie, 1/2((x-8y)(x+6y))=1/2(x^2-2xy-48y^2) sq.ft\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

Assuming this is the triangle: |dw:1325084243379:dw| then the solution shown by @Atchyut is correct
