just mentaly replace the inequality sign with and equal sign and solve like normal so you get 5x-8>8 5x>16 x>16/5 for the other -(5x-8)>8 distribute the negitive sign -5x+8>8 -5x>0 x<0 when you divide by an inequality by a negitive you flip the sign
