A rectangular container with a square base of sides measuring 35 cm, and height of 28 cm is 2/5 filled with water. After 8 identical cylindrical rods are placed completely in the container, the water level rises to 6/7 of its height. Calculate the length of each cylindrical rod if its radius is 7.5 cm. (Take pi = 3.14)

First find the volume of the container. Then, find the difference between 6/7th of that volume and 2/5th of that volume. This difference must equal the volume of the cylindrical rods. So, find the length of the rods given the rest of the parameters of the cylindrical rods.

Okay. Thank you very much! Just to check, (6/7th of the volume - 2/5th of the vol)/8 = vol of 1 rod. Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

Very good!!

Thanks again! Mensuration seems to be my weak spot.
