How big is the skeletal muscle cell? It can vary right?

OpenStudy (blues):

Different skeletal muscle cells can range greatly in size. When you measure 'size' of an individual muscle cell, you really need to talk about the cell's volume because one of the defining properties of a myocyte (I like the fancy word for 'muscle cell') is that it is contracts and changes its overall shape quite a bit. So yes, the 'size' can vary in that the overall dimensions of the cells can change and no, the 'size' cannot vary because the cell can't change its total volume even as it changes shape.
