A child’s paternity is in question. The chart below was constructed to shed some light on the situation.
ABO blood type Rh type Eye colour MN blood type Earlobes Cheeks Chin Mother A Pos Blue M Fixed Smooth Round Child O O Neg Brown MN Free Smooth Cleft Casanova B Neg Brown N Fixed Smooth Cleft Don Juan O Pos Blue MN Free Smooth Cleft Romeo B Pos Brown N Free Dimples Cleft Baryshnikov AB Neg brown M Free Dimples Round Valentino B Neg Brown M Free Smooth Round Homer O Pos Brown N Free Dimples round Note: Brown eyes dominant over blue eyes Free earlobes dominant to fixed Chin cleft dominant to round Rh+ is dominant to Rh- Dimples dominant to smooth
Someone help D:
well what exactly are the child's ABO, Rh, eye color, MN blood type, earlobes, and cheeks?
to know that first would help immensely to figure out the problem you have at hand
Child is O, Negative, Brown, MN, Free, Smooth, and Cleft.
Mother is A, Pos, Blue, M, Fixed, Smooth, and Round.
I believe Baryshnikov is out of the question because he has the AB blood type... and he cannot reproduce an O blood type.. but then the mom is A blood type so there is a possibility.. noo.
The first thing to do is figure out all possible combinations of alleles which give rise to the mom's and kid's phenotypes, and then determine which of the kid's alleles must have come from the Dad. She's either AA or AO, ++ or +-, bb, MM, ff (with small 'f' referring to 'free' and big 'F' referring to fixed) and rr (with small 'r' referring to round). The kid is OO, --, bB, MN, Ff and rR. So from Dad, the kid got an O, -, B, N, F and R.
Then you go down the list of potential fathers and see which one of them could have contributed each of these alleles. For example, from looking at blood type, you're right that being AB removes Baryshnikov from consideration. It does not remove anyone else. Your teacher probably expects you to list the possible genotypes for each father as well but I'm not that picky; I suggest making a list of possible fathers and crossing out each candidate as he is eliminated...
For example, Cassanova is out over the question of earlobes, Don Juan is out over the question of eye color, and having shown you the way I think you can probably do the rest yourself.
ohhhh, i see. I think I get it now, thank you! :)
I didn't learned the MN blood type, if an individual is "M" it is MM, "N" is NN, and "MN"?
