This bit is a little strange:
if (argv == NULL){
printf("woops... try that again...\n");
return 1;
}
An empty argv array is not represented as a NULL pointer, it's represented by
a NULL in the first array entry. If you're testing for an empty list of command-line arguments, I'd do this:

if (argv[0] == NULL) {
...
}
