mean, median, mode 7.2,3.6,9,5.2,7.2,6.5,3.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is troubling you here? for mean add up and divide by 7 median arrange from lowest to highest, take middle one mode, observe the most frequent number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or if you just want to check your answer, cheat http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=mean+7.2%2C3.6%2C9%2C5.2%2C7.2%2C6.5%2C3.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im just horrible with this stuff and im behind on it for that reason

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can check it easily. or just have the computer do it and forget about it. but a mean should be easy to take with a calculator. add and divide

twisted -- do you know what the words "median" , "mode" and "mean" ... mean? :) Serious question. without knowing what these words mean, it's next to impossible to solve this problem. (same for many other problems in other subjects...) Is it the vocab words that are giving you trouble or the actual act of adding up and dividing numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Completely agree mathteacher - my problem with this when I learned it was regarding the terms - not the mathematics behind it. Mean I got, but I had a hard time remembering median vs. mode. What about you @twisted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know what they mean but am constently getting them all confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hear you - try breaking them up mentally in a different way. Mean = average. Median = middle. And mode = more. That's how I did it at least, see what works for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for the tip

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. Oh, and happy New Years ;)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

How I remember them: The AVERAGE teacher is "mean". :) The "median" is that line in the MIDDLE of the road. Mode = The one that appears the most.
