object change its velocity when there is force. friction is a force in opposite direction. So it change velocity negatively . So it slows down

on a frictional surface the energy is lost in various forms mainly in the form of heat. As it has velocity (as it is moving) the kinetic energy is mainly lost in the form of heat energy
