help with matrices please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two hockey teams submit equipment lists for the season as shown. Each stick costs $55, each puck $2, and uniforms $25. Use matrix multiplication to find the total cost of equipment for each team. Women's Team -14 sticks, 39 pucks, & 14 uniforms Men's Team-16 sticks, 25 pucks, & 20 uniforms. The total cost for the women's team is $________ and the total cost for the men's team is $_________.

OpenStudy (phi):

write down a 2 row by 3 col matrix where each row is # sticks, pucks, unis write down a 3 row by 1 col vector of prices (in the same order) Can you do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. just a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you multiply them?

OpenStudy (phi):

Yes

OpenStudy (phi):

\[\left[\begin{matrix}14 & 39 & 14 \\ 16 & 25 & 20\end{matrix}\right]\left(\begin{matrix}55 \\ 2 \\ 25\end{matrix}\right)=\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\left(\begin{matrix}1198 \\ 1430\end{matrix}\right)\] right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then women's team cost is $1198 and the men's team cost is $1430

OpenStudy (phi):

I checked your first #. Looks good. I'll trust you for the men's!
